Located in Port Aransas, Texas at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute the National Estuarine Research Reserve facility houses research labs, offices, public education, and library functions.  The design is storm resistant with cast in place concrete, unit masonry and custom detailed impact rated polycarbonate wall systems.  Impact rated vinyl window and aluminum curtainwall glazing systems are used.  The design further incorporates passive solar orientation; light well to deliver daylight to building interior and ground level; light well to additionally serve as a ventilation stack for ground level activity spaces; rainwater catchment for irrigation; air conditioning condensate catchment for irrigation; daylight and views from virtually all interior spaces; photovoltaic solar renewable energy collection.
