DEL MAR COLLEGE FINE ARTS THEATER

A new proscenium theater to seat 400 is the centerpiece of this 24,000 square foot addition to a community college fine arts complex. The project expands the existing drama program (built around a 150 seat black-box theater ) with new scene shop, costume shop, set design studio, dressing and make-up areas, acting studio, faculty office and other support areas. The project also includes a film classroom/theater, radio production facilities, and archival storage for visual arts. The design utilizes the established campus materials of buff brick, pink cast-stone, and blue glazed tile, and extends the scale, cornice lines and building lines of the urban campus. Building mass and form are expressed with theatrical exuberance to create an iconic and inviting gesture to community theater-goers and fine arts supporters.
